Winter Walk Mailing Billy Ray

Home at 4 o'clock. Potty the dogs, and then change clothes. I'm walking...

The local post office is downtown, an easy and unwinding twenty minute walk. I am shipping Billy Ray.

It is a milk ad, sponsored by the Portland TrailBlazers and the Dairy Farmers of Oregon, and featuring a smiling, milk holding Billy Ray Bates. I bought seven of them for a dollar at a tiny garage sale last summer. One copy is on my kids' bedroom wall. Two were given to old hoop buddies. Amazingly, the rest were sold.

I had this particular  copy on Ebay for $1.99 plus $6.17 for shipping. Mint Condition. The buyer messaged me about a reduced shipping rate, "...since I am in Portland," he wrote. I agreed whole heartedly. And the holiday spirit is flying around a bit, so I am sending Billy Ray to the buyer for $1.99 plus exact shipping, which was three dollars. No handling charge...

I put the rolled up milk ad, packed in a paper towel roller, into the inside pocket of my faded, yet still cool, leather coat, and headed out into the blustery December evening, with the shadows and wind whipping across my face. I grabbed my camera and a Ziploc bag(camera raingear) and started walking.

I shot some photos....

Billy Ray Bates:

A vintage poster and vintage gear. The pulled-up socks and "hugger" shorts remind me of the 1980's. Along with the high-top Nikes and the Wilson basketball. A super cool poster and great message. Drink milk and support your local farmer. Sound advice.
