But, what about that rain?
Some gear, like Canon's 7D, is weather-sealed. Others, such as the Rebel series, are not sealed. Use caution in wet weather, and protect your camera and lenses at every moment.
Rainshields, cellophane, and other DIY solutions are plentiful. Be creative or use Google.
Use flash for fill-light. Flash or off-camera lighting reduces shadows and illuminates our subject nicely.
Buying used can be wise, just be a picky shopper. My 430EX Canon Speedlite was $100 used and it was brand new. I have a vintage Sunpak flash that is spectacular. I paid ten dollars for it.
Light can be scarce. Mid-day is now a prime time to shoot. With cloudy skies and imposing storms, finding good light will be a challenge. Pay attention to shadows and use them to gauge where you want to shoot from.
Autumn is alive with color. Invest in a polarizer to make the bright Fall foliage jump out of your photos.
Aperture Mode will give you total control of Depth of Field, use it to blur backgrounds.
Adjusting the White Balance for these cloudy days is a must. Get in the habit of checking and adjusting WB on the fly.
Lens hoods are great rain caps, use them for shooting in the wet weather, they will help keep raindrops off of the lens face.
Shooting from a tripod in the drizzle is a constant battle to keep rain from the lens face. Use your ballcap to help keep the lens dry.
Keep extra socks, a hoodie, gloves, and a towel in the camera bag or the car.
