There is a place that I like to go in Albany, Bowman Park, located on the Willamette River at the east end of town.
The 26-acre park boasts an improved boat launch, fishing, rock hunting, bathrooms, picnic areas, hiking trails, Periwinkle Creek, and an abundance of mountain bike trails. Photo opportunities are plentiful.
Easy to find, at the north end of Geary Street, Bowman Park connects to Simpson Park and Talking Water Gardens by way of trail. Just to the west of Bowman, the Dave Clark Riverpath starts and runs along the Willamette to the west end of Albany.
As with any other urban riverpark, elements exist that require common sense safety measures. Carry pepperspray and hike with a buddy.
In addition to Simpson and Talking Water Gardens, Bowman is close to Monteith Park, Takena Landing, and Bryant Park- and are within a ten minute walk. The Dave Clark Riverfront Path connects all of this and is now lighted.
At Talking Waters, another paved path connects this fabulous system to Waverly Lake.
